Reduce Farm Equipment Theft with Everlock’s Multi Locking Systems
For small business owners or those who run small business operations, one of the most financially devastating hits is the loss or theft of their equipment. The agricultural industry, including farmers, equipment suppliers, irrigation and pump contractors and many others in the industry are hard hit. Profitability can decline because of thieves and robbers who target equipment, tools and metal. In many cases, they simply drive the stolen goods right an unlocked gate, using the equipment they just stole from the site..
Because this problem is becoming increasingly common, a new task force has been created to reduce metal theft from agricultural farms in Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. The online Claims Journal recently noted that:
- According to the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, 33% of farm crimes involve equipment theft.
- The Mississippi Secretary of State is creating a new task force, called the Mississippi Delta Agricultural Theft Task Force, which will help create communication between law enforcement agencies, scrap metal recycling yards, equipment suppliers and others that might be involved in the buying and selling of scrap metal, parts or equipment.
To help the agriculture industry avoid these extra costs, the task force is working on a system that will prevent the sale of stolen copper across state lines.
How can these thefts be avoided?
One thing that could help prevent some of these thefts is Everlock Systems’ patented multi locking systems. Our patented products give property and business owners complete control over those who are authorized users and those who are not. The ability to grant or deny access to secondary users such as contractors, suppliers, haulers, and laborers without giving away multiple keys or simply leaving the gate open increases security and provides improved access control. Everlock’s proven multi locking systems also prevent inadvertent lockouts for people who should have access.
This could help agricultural farmers in several ways:
- Just the sight of a lock is a deterrent to would-be thieves.
- Our multi-user systems make it possible to grant or deny access to specific people, making it easy for farmers to update the locks as their workforce changes.
- Because each person granted access to the locks has their own unique padlock and their own key, it’s impossible for any authorized person to get locked out. By not having to worry about inadvertent lockouts, there is never a reason to leave any equipment or buildings unlocked.
